TOWN OF KENSINGTON
BOARD OF SELECTMEN’S WORK SESSION
10:00 a.m.
Approved 7/23/07
Work session began at 10:15.
In attendance: Rich Powers, Stefanie Johnstone, Mike
Motherway.
First item discussed were health benefits. It was agreed that the warrant
article passed in 1997 restricting health benefits is unduly restrictive of the
selectmen. Town Counsel recommends repealing the warrant at the 2008 Town
Meeting. In the interim the board will modify the existing policy, following a
procedure recommended by Town Counsel. The reworded policy will include
offering health benefits at the start of employment rather than having a 1 year
waiting period.
Next item discussed is how the selectmen will proceed with the town park
process. Rather than assigning one of us to represent the Town, the 3 selectmen
will be actively involved in the process through at least the end of
construction. It may be seen as cumbersome by some but seen as a necessity by
the board given the size and scope of the
project and the impact on the Town. The role of the selectmen in the park trust
was discussed. Opinions varied regarding how involved the board should be in
this area.
The work session adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Michael Motherway
Selectman
