TOWN OF KENSINGTON

BOARD OF SELECTMEN

SITE WALK AND MEETING MINUTES

May 23, 2009

Approved June 8, 2009

Saturday May 23rd.

8:00 am. In attendance: Dave Buxton, Rich Powers, Russell Perry, Mike Motherway

Site walk of Moulton Ridge Road. Dave explained the approach he would like to take in reconstructing Moulton Ridge Road.  The plan for this year would be to address drainage only. There are markings on the road indicating current road width and markings that are circled with the width at completion of paving.

The proposed plan takes in to consideration concerns raised by residents that the road not be widened. Dave explained that he would meet with Christian Smith, the town engineer on Friday and with residents of Moulton Ridge Road next Saturday then come to the next Board of Selectmen meeting with an updated proposal.

9:30 am. In Attendance: Donna Carter, Mike Del Sesto, Rich Powers, Russell Perry, Mike Motherway

Meeting at Sawyer Park. Current status of lawn and turf care was discussed. Compaction is a known issue. There is concern about the sod not growing.  Core aerating, over seeding, fertilization, compost tea, and sand were talked about as ways to address the current problem.  Use of sand and which, if, any fertilizer were discussed at length.
It was agreed to not apply sand at this point as it has been indicated that it may in fact cause more compaction if applied to native soils.  After lengthy discussion regarding fertilizer application it was agreed to apply a high nitrogen fertilizer as a one time application and to commit to continue to work with the organic program.  Javier and Fred will be consulted for recommendations for application of compost, tea, and a more aggressive schedule of aeration.

Concession stand operations were discussed. The Town will assume responsibility for running the concession stand effective today. Proceeds from sales will be directed to town accounts and used to offset concession stand and park maintenance expenses. The Town will still need to rely on the Trustees for continued financial support. Mike M. will be the primary point of contact to work out the details of day to day operations. Russell made the motion with all in favor.

Respectfully submitted,

Michael Motherway, Selectman
