Your Voice. Your Vision. Your Town.

 

 

Have you ever given any thought to our town center?  Are there issues that need to be addressed?  Are there unmet needs it can accommodate?  How might underused buildings be put to better use?  What can we do to make it a thriving place that brings us together, enhances our community, and maintains our sense of place?  There’s help.  Plan NH is coming to Kensington on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21 to help residents think through issues in our town center.

 

It’s our time to come together and imagine, and Plan NH’s volunteer experts will help us do just that by meeting with residents during listening sessions and a potluck dinner.  Then, they’ll use their expertise in planning, architecture, landscape, engineering, transit, and other arenas to draw up a set of recommendations based on what they hear from us.

 

Why us?  Why now?  With the approval of the selectmen, volunteers in town applied to have Kensington selected as one of three “charrettes” that Plan NH will conduct across the state this year.  And, we were fortunate enough to be chosen!  We will be fundraising for Plan NH’s $5000 orchestration fee, but all the expertise—something we’d pay tens of thousands for if commissioned—is provided at no cost by the volunteers who will spend the weekend with us.

 

 

Spread the word: Share the news any way you can—from conversations to social media—and direct your Kensington neighbors and friends to our page on Facebook and the Plan NH Charrette page on the town website for more info.

 

Donate: We are raising funds to cover the $5000 fee that goes to Plan NH and to cover miscellaneous food and other costs for the event.  Checks can be made payable to Plan NH (write “Kensington Charrette” on the memo line) and sent to Plan NH c/o Frank Whittemore 5 Hobbs Road, Kensington, NH 03833.    All donations will be used to cover event expenses.

 

Help us plan: We’ll need people to help get the word out, make food, park cars, set up tables and chairs, and even make videos.  (Do we have a volunteer videographer?  Perhaps a student?)  We’ll also need places for the Plan NH volunteers to stay.  Send us an email at PlanNHKensington@comcast.net or come to any of the volunteer committee meetings

Be there: It’s particularly important to show up at one of the two listening sessions on Friday, October 20, from 3:30-5:00 or 6:30-8:00.  Also please join in the potluck on Friday from 5:15-6:15 and come again on Saturday at 3 pm to hear the team’s recommendations.  Your town needs your voice and your vision.
